The Chinese government is expected to announce a precision medicine initiative in March that is expected to be over $9 Billion over 15 years – far beyond the $215 million U.S. plan announced last year. With that funding, many research projects around genome sequencing and specifically in those diseases of highest interest to the Chinese healthcare can be started.
However, critiques predict that the impact may remain limited as long as there is not sufficient clinical personnel available to test and diagnose the patients on the individual level.
